Central Susquehanna Sight Services (CSSS) has been providing education and vision screenings for the prevention of blindness and services for the blind and visually impaired for 70 years.
Formerly known as the Lower Susquehanna Branch of the Pennsylvania Association for the Blind, CSSS provides services to residents of Columbia, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder and Union Counties in central Pennsylvania.
A member of the Pennsylvania Association for the Blind, we are currently the only agency in the area that specifically serves people who are blind or visually impaired. We believe in helping people help themselves.
Our prevention programs take a proactive approach to addressing the approximately 50% of blindness that is preventable. Our vision screening program for preschool children can help to identify vision problems that can influence a child’s performance in school and limit everyday activities, while screenings for adults can identify degeneration of vision due to chronic disease or other health conditions.
Thanks to the 1994 Charles B. Degenstein Foundation, Community Aid, and Wal-Mart (Lewisburg), CSSS purchased to two Spot Vision Screeners in 2018.
In 2018, 1,357 preschool children and 285 adults participated in vision screenings with 207 being referred for a professional eye examination.
